Use Your Bowling Practice Time Wisely

By: bowlingball.com, 4/5/16

If you are a bowler averaging in the 150 - 175 range and feel your bowling performances have peaked, there is a way to improve your game if you use your bowling practice time wisely.

Most bowlers do not use all of their skills to their best advantage. In fact, most bowlers are unaware of what additional skills they have but never use.

To make improvements in your game, you must utilize your physical game skills and bowl intelligently.

Use your practice time sensibly.

Here are a few ideas to consider:

*Practice your spares as much, if not more, than strike deliveries.

*Work on spare shooting, especially ones where you are least comfortable converting when bowling in a leagues or tournaments. Develop an alignment and an adjustments system for spares just as you must for strikes.

*Change bowling balls for spares if your strike ball hooks unpredictably when shooting corner pins spares. If your ball hooks too much when shooting a ten pin spare, as example, then use a ball designed to hook less.

Your pro shop professional can help you select a ball to compliment your needs for strikes and spares.

*If you have more than one bowling ball for strike deliveries, become as familiar with these bowling balls as possible and learn when it serves you best to use each one.

When your bowling ball no longer reacts dependably, change to a ball which is set up to create either a longer or shorter skid distance, depending on the given case. Your goal is to attain a controllable and stable ball reaction.

*Being stubborn and telling yourself you can throw the ball better and then keep making the same mistake over and over is not a smart strategy, albeit one which many bowlers demonstrate.

Avoid trying to “out-bowl” a bad ball reaction. Change bowling balls when your typical adjustments playing the lanes no longer work.

*Resist the urge to work on too many things at one time. Keep things simple. Work on footwork, as an example, one practice session and perhaps on your swing and release techniques another session.

*Develop a short but focused practice plan. Practice with a purpose.

It is in practice that you build and improve your game. In competition, you must trust your game.

Bowling intelligently means to trust in your skills; use your bowling practice time wisely.
