Use One Bowling Style for Every Delivery

Use one bowling style for every delivery.

If you are new to the game or averaging less than 170 and simply trying to improve your scores, you do not need several ways to deliver your bowling ball. Sticking to one style and mastering it is ideal.

Develop one style and use that form for any shot you must make whether it be for strikes or for spares and splits.

Get as good as you can using one style and technique and avoid trying to bowl differently from one shot to the next. Sometimes focusing on multiple styles can stunt your progress when compared to focusing on just one.

All you need is to adjust your angles of attack depending on whether you are aiming for the pocket or for cross lane spares, as examples.

One style - what does this mean?

Develop good footwork where you walk the same direction from start to finish no matter where you align yourself on the approach floor.

Also walk at the same pace each shot you take. Once you are able to do this, you can allow your swing back and through to match the pace of your steps so you are able to deliver the ball with good timing and at the same speed and with the same release technique over and over again.

Where bowlers get themselves in trouble is when they do one thing one shot and another thing the next shot.

Make your goal to repeat the same footwork and swing motion each time you bowl.

This task is made easy if you can develop a solidly balanced body movement when walking and swinging your bowling ball.

Set up in an athletic posture with your knees slightly flexed and your upper body tilted forward (only about 10 degrees forward) from an upright standing position.

Try to retain the same spine angle tilt as you walk, swing, and release your ball.

Avoid varying your ball speed. If you can deliver your ball at or very nearly at the same speed each time you bowl, your ball reaction will become increasingly consistent.

Master one style and use the same simple yet effective techniques each time you bowl. You will be surprised how well you can score and how much you can improve your average by doing so.

By establishing a tempo which is closely matched to your natural walking pace and stride and then coordinating your swing cycle to your pace of movement develops a specific bowling tempo and timing sequence.

Use your natural length walking stride. Walk smoothly and with a pace of steps which consistently builds momentum with each successive step. Avoid hurrying your steps in anticipation of releasing your ball. As you gain momentum with each step your swing speed will accelerate and provide good bowling ball speed. There is no need to try and bowl at varying speeds or using a variety of releases either. Make one good shot at a time and then another. Use one bowling style for every delivery.
