Finger Inserts For New Bowlers

Finger inserts are not necessary if you are a new bowler and are preparing to have your first bowling ball drilled. Finger inserts are only useful in a fingertip grip drilling.

If you are getting your first new ball drilled as a conventional grip drilling, there is no need for inserts. In a conventional drilling, the pro shop professional will contour and shape your gripping holes to custom fit your bowling hand.

Finger inserts are used typically in full fingertip grip bowling balls.

However, if you have taken a lesson from a professional instructor and are getting a new ball drilled as a fingertip grip, you might consider use of inserts.

Inserts provide the ability for your fingers to apply an enhanced delivery action on the bowling ball after your thumb exits the ball first.

Inserts provide contour to fit your knuckle shape which in turn helps to prevent finger irritation or chaffing on the sides of the knuckle joints.

Finger inserts are added urethane material tubes with gripping holes contoured inside the tubes which allow you to fit your gripping fingers into the tubes.

Each insert is sized and contoured so the pro shop professional can simply slip the tube down into the larger drilled holes and glue them in place.

Each insert has predetermined hole sizes shaped to match your finger dimensions and conform to your desired pitch angles drilled into the outer holes of the ball.

Inserts can help prevent your skin from splitting or other irritations that can occur, replacing or reducing the need for protective tape.

In much the same way finger inserts are used, thumb slugs can be inserted into a larger thumb sized hole drilled into your ball and glued into place.

The pro shop professional can drill through the slugs in the same manner as the ball material itself. The thumb hole can then be contoured and beveled as needed to match the shape of your thumb.

Pro shop operators are normally happy to remove and replace inserts for you for nominal fees. If you are preparing to use finger inserts for the first time, make sure you check them regularly and change them when they begin to wear.

Getting a consistent grip on your bowling ball is a very important key in good shot making.
