Walk To Your Bowling Sliding Board

If you are experiencing unwanted drift tendencies, walk to your sliding board regardless where you are sighting as a target.

It is acknowledged that bowlers will sometimes drift off of their intended walking lines on the approach because of visually sighting at an aimpoint improperly selected on the lane surface relative to the chosen sliding board.

Also, when some bowlers move cross lane to shoot for a corner pin, they often drift back toward the center of the approach and actually cut off their angle to successfully convert the spare.

It is vital in becoming an accurate bowler to walk your intended line to the foul line and slide exactly on the board you must so when you release your ball, you have an excellent chance at hitting your aimpoint.

Obviously, it takes a good deal of practice to walk your intended line and slide on an exact board corresponding to an intended release point where your bowling ball first contacts the lane and to an intended sight point down the lane.

One thing you can do to practice walking your line is to place a small piece of bowling tape on the board about ½ inch behind the foul line where you wish to slide.

Check your bowling shoe instep to ensure you slide in the same place covering the tape shot after shot.

Now do the same by moving the tape to a corner location on the approach where you need to slide to convert the ten pin spare (right handed bowlers) and then choose your starting board and walk to the tape. Check it out repeatedly to make sure your drift pattern does not change from shot to shot.

Any bowler at any skill level must be certain where they will slide based on their walking path, sliding board, release board, and aim point.

This system acknowledges that some bowlers walk a straight line path and some drift left or right. The objective is to walk the same amount of drift (or straight) each time you bowl so your job selecting a sliding board, a bowling ball release point, and an aim point becomes a routine process.

Accuracy truly lives with good footwork. Specifically, accuracy is developed with the direction you walk regardless where you initially align yourself on the approach and at the tempo or pace you walk.

Be as consistent as possible.

Your walking path is vital to accuracy.

Another factor in accuracy is selecting the correct sliding board for your chosen aimpoint on the lane. You will choose an aimpoint based on your release technique and on the oil pattern of the lane with the purpose of gaining a reliable ball reaction to hit the pocket. If your aimpoint is too far right or left of where you slide based your intended ball delivery path angle, then you will likely not hit the aimpoint or you may force your swing and release thereby risking making a poor shot. Work on sliding consistently and selecting a corresponding aimpoint to improve your accuracy.
