Schedule A Meeting With Your Personal Bowling Team

By: bowlingball.com, 2/2/16

If you are a serious tournament bowler and wish to prepare for your next important event, schedule a meeting with your personal bowling team.

No, not your league teammates (although one may be part of your personal consultation team), your coach, pro shop advisor, physical trainer, and sports psychologist.

Realistically, you are not using the services of a professional trainer or a psychologist, but they can be considered a part of your personal advisory team.

Perhaps your coach and/or your pro shop professional double as a mentor or physical training advisor.

The point here is to meet briefly with your personal team and discuss the state of your game, your equipment, lane conditions where you will bowl your upcoming tournament, and any other pertinent matters which surround your participation in the event.

We know that a personal coach can help you sharpen your bowling skills. Your coach can also help you establish a practice routine where you work on the keys of your game. A good coach will help you organize your preparation for coming tournaments and strive to getting you ready to bowl.

Becoming a skilled tournament player requires more than pure, natural talent. Talent is very important but combining knowledge of your game and how to make effective adjustments while bowling in tournaments is vital for success.

Not every session with your coach needs to be a physical game training period. Your personal coach can work together with you to better understand lane conditions and oil patterns, oil carry-down, break-down, and with making appropriate adjustments for these changing lane conditions during competition.

Prompt and decisive adjustment decisions are necessary during tournament play. Your coach can be a valuable asset during practice if you develop techniques to restore your game to it’s top levels of performance.

Your performance team must also include a pro shop professional. You must have your equipment prepared for use. Having an arsenal of bowling balls ready to match with lane conditions of paramount importance.

Your pro shop team member must also be able to help you build a strategy to prepare your ball surfaces and develop a predetermined schedule of maintenance.

Remaining in good bowling shape is extremely important so you have the stamina to deal with the physical and mental strain of tournament bowling.

If you do not use a personal trainer, develop your own exercise routine to keep you physically prepared for the rigors of competition.

Anyone in your inner circle of associates in whom you trust as a mental game advisor should be consulted as you prepare to bowl tournaments.

If you know your challenges when you bowl “under the gun”, your mentor can discuss ways of dealing with these challenges and getting in the proper frame of mind to bowl.

Finally, to really round out a complete performance team you should also have a sports psychologist who can help you prepare your mind and your body in a coordinated effort to prepare for competition, to perform at a high level of efficiency in competition, and to understand how to control you emotions in competition.

No great athlete ever got to the top levels of their game totally by themselves. Everyone can benefit from the services of professionals referred to in this article.

It is your decision, ultimately, to engage with your personal advisors when preparing to bowl important competitive events.

If you are planning to bowl in a tournament soon, schedule a meeting with your personal bowling team.
