Retain The Bowling Vee For Victory

If you are one of the very top tier players in your community, retain the bowling Vee for victory.

You ask what is the bowling Vee?

The great PBA Hall of Fame Champion, Don Johnson, referred to the Vee formed with the bowling arm angle relative to the floor and at the bottom of the forward swing arc with the angle formed by the sliding leg when the player slide toward the body center under the chin for good balance during the critical moment of release.

From a frontal view, a highly skilled player sliding and releasing the ball will have the inside edge of the bowling ball less than one inch from contacting the sliding leg ankle bone.

In this case and as Don would frequently point out to his students, the bowling arm will not be perpendicular to the floor but rather at an angle resembling the left side of the letter Vee.

Don would go on to say that the sliding leg would form an angle appearing to be the right side of the letter Vee.

When this Vee occurs, the bowling shoulder is lower than the non-bowling shoulder so a proper arm swing angle is formed with the sliding leg.

When the player achieves this swing and sliding position forming the Vee, maximum power, leverage, and ball control will also be maximized.

If you begin to feel or sense that your swing is no longer tight to your body or sliding ankle, then have someone check your sliding position and your swing direction entering the release zone.

Keep things nice and tight so you can release your bowling ball along your intended delivery path.

One key checkpoint all great bowlers must observe is the relative positioning of a sliding leg and the arm swing entering the release zone.

As part of your checklist when you practice or prepare for important competition, check your Vee to ensure you are in position to make accurate and effective shots.
