Rely On Your Bowling Skills

By: bowlingball.com, 10/3/16

Rely on your bowling skills and minimize your mistakes when you are not bowling your best.

When you are in competition and when you are bowling well, get out of your own way and just let things evolve until it is time to make adjustments.

Avoid over thinking when you are going good. It is surprising to learn that even the best players sometimes work against themselves looking to make perfect adjustments and to be extremely precise amid good performances.

When you are bowling your best, let it go and let it flow.

It is very important to trust your game and your decisions when faced with making adjustments.

Adjusting is only needed and is a by-product of losing your ball reaction during competition.

Rely on your intuition and your experience so you do not second guess your adjustment decisions.

So many top flight players can lose their “Mojo” or their “Magic” when bowling well when they see they are losing their ball reaction or pin carry or both and then risk having things decline and end up frustrated and bowling poorly.

Recognize and be prepared to face highs and lows in competition.

Avoid working against yourself when you encounter these crossroads in decision making during competitive sessions.

Use adjustments you have proven to work well in the past.

If you can learn to recognize when a ball change is necessary and understand that physical game adjustments may not be the particular solution (or vice versa) when you lose your ball reaction is a vital process in shortening the wait time to get back on track.

At these moments it is key to not panic or become anxious but rather trust the feedback you get from watching your ball reaction carefully.

If you know you made a good shot but you miss the pocket, it might be wise to not prolong implementing some type of adjustment such as a ball change or a given physical game adjustment you know you can use effectively in the given situation.

Once you have made up your mind, then rely on your bowling skills. Just bowl.

Understand that no player is ever in 100% “dead stroke” and making great shots throughout every competitive session.

You do not need to be bowling great to win, you need to bowl effectively and use the tools you have developed to an advantage.

If you lose your ball reaction and begin to miss the pocket consistently, decide if you need to make a physical game adjustment or a ball change. If your bowling ball equipment is prepared for use due to routine maintenance, then you should be able to decide quickly which form of adjustment you can effectively make to restore a reliable ball reaction. Developing your skills happens both on the practice lanes and from the many times you have bowled in competition and faced decisions during your time on the lanes. Rely on your bowling skills and stay calm.
