If you are new to the game, properly gripping your conventionally drilled bowling ball will help you advance in the game.

There are a few tips to help you learn how to grip your bowling ball.

First, it is important to understand what a conventionally drilled bowling ball means. A conventional grip is a standard term used to describe how the gripping holes are drilled into your bowling ball.

A conventional grip allows for your two middle fingers of your bowling hand to be inserted down to the second knuckle joint of both fingers and for your thumb to be inserted all the way down to your second and largest knuckle joint.

Use these tips below to help you develop a good gripping technique:

*Support the weight of the ball in your non-bowling hand when taking your stance position on the approach.

*Place your bowling fingers, the middle two fingers of your bowling hand, into the bowling ball down to the 2nd knuckle joint followed by placing your thumb completely down down into its gripping hole.

*Make sure your fingers and thumb are inserted as far as the holes permit. Avoid partially inserting your fingers or thumb and avoid bending your knuckles inside the bowling ball when gripping the ball.

*The weight of the ball will be supported by the pads of your fingers and thumb leading to the second knuckle joint of each gripping finger.

*Allow the ball surface to rest on the palm of your hand with your thumb fully extended in the ball. There should be little or no separation of the palm of your hand from the surface of the bowling ball.

*Use slightly more gripping pressure on the finger pads of your hand than on your thumb pad.

It is recommended that as a beginner bowler you visit your local pro shop and purchase your own new ball.

A properly fitted bowling ball will greatly reduce any chances of injury or skin irritation and will help you gain consistency and control of your bowling ball delivery.
