Posture And The Beginner Bowler

One of the most important techniques to develop and a new bowler is to establish an athletic bowling posture.

Bowling posture and the beginner bowler are linked with accuracy.

If you are a new bowler, then begin with your set-up position on the approach.

By using an upright posture with perhaps only a 10 degree forward body tilt and by extending your non-bowling arm out to the side of your body about waist level as soon as you begin your arm swing, you will be in a good walking position and can retain good body balance as you walk, swing, and release your bowling ball.

Avoid grabbing your sliding bowling leg on the thigh area with your non-bowling hand as you slide into the foul line on your final step.

Holding onto your sliding leg while releasing the ball will effectively reduce your leverage, you will lose ball speed potential, and accuracy can suffer.

The reason why grabbing your leg prevents good posture is that generally, you will bend too far at the waist while grabbing your leg and releasing the bowling ball at the same time.

Instead, keep your non-bowling arm extended out to the side of your body about waist level as you walk and swing your ball.

In doing so, you will improve your balance and be in a stronger leverage position to deliver your ball than if you bend too far down with your upper body and grab your sliding leg.

One way to avoid grabbing the non-sliding leg is to keep your bottom portion of your chin at shoulder height throughout your approach.

Keep your head as motionless as possible as you walk and swing your bowling ball.

Being in a solid, athletic posture throughout your approach and at the foul line will help you follow through freely and with a full upswing motion and will help you avoid decelerating your forward swing and losing ball speed.

Keep it simple. If you establish an athletic posture during your stance position, all you need to focus on during your approach is to maintain that same posture during your slide and release.

Good posture and use your non-bowling arm will lead to accurate shots.

Using good bowling posture leads to good balance throughout your approach. Good body balance allows you to swing and release your ball accurately and to repeat good shots. Good balance is important as you enter your final sliding step and getting into position to deliver your ball.
