Keep Your Eye On Your Bowling Ball

Keep your eye on the ball. Sound familiar? Well, keep your eye on your bowling ball.

This simple tip is so important.

Watching your bowling ball carefully travel down the lane allows for useful feedback for the purposes of alignment and adjustments in hitting the pocket.

Take a moment to “watch “ your ball skid through the front end of the lane passing over your sight target, transitioning in the mid-lane (hooking), and then changing direction about two-thirds of its way down the lane at the breakpoint, and rolling squarely into the pocket.

To do so, you must avoid getting anxious to see if you are going to get a strike but rather watch your ball reaction entirely until your ball leaves the pin deck.

Everyone wants strikes. You cannot strike consistently without a consistent ball reaction.

Accuracy is a combination of good physical skills and proper alignment. If you do not watch your ball motion carefully, you must guess at how you will align to the pocket or to a critical spare you must convert in a close competition.

Watching your ball motion tips you off if your ball is hooking too soon or too late in the mid-lane.

If you read the lane condition as causing your ball to skid too far or not far enough, you then can make some type of adjustment or change your angle of attack on the pocket.

Making the right decisions at the right time during competition matters most if you expect to win.

Alignment decisions directly relate to understanding your lane reads, especially in competition.

Watching your ball reaction very carefully and basing your adjustment decisions off of what you read on the lane is the critical key for success.

Commit to your decisions in reading your ball reaction. This notion is commonly known as trust.

Trust is an essential quality in allowing yourself to make quality shots and correct spontaneous decisions during competition.

Keep your eye on your bowling ball, trust your decisions, visualize a positive result, then relax and go bowl.

There are other factors for making good adjustments other than only alignment adjustments. Changing your ball speed, loft distance, changing your release technique slightly to alter your ball motion, or changing bowling balls are all examples of adjustments which can lead to hitting the pocket consistently. Every decision you must make stems from watching your ball reaction carefully every shot, not just when you first begin a competitive session. Stay focused on reading the lanes and trust your decisions.
