Keep Your Bowling Swing On The Intended Path

Keep your bowling swing on the intended path.

When you make moves on the lanes changing angles of attack, it is important to keep your swing moving along your intended path toward your sighting target down the lane.

Your swing path, as you know, is a composite path combining your backswing direction and your forward swing direction in relation to the sighting target on the lane.

There are a few simple things which can adversely affect your swing path causing you to miss your target and/or make a poor release.

If you do not walk your intended lines and step in front of your forward swing path, as example, you might “chicken-wing” your shot and either pull your ball off line or rotate your fingers too early.

If you make a poor shot or two after changing angles during competition, check your walking lines to make sure your drift pattern does not vary from the norm.

Another mistake to avoid is forcing your forward swing trying to add power to your release or hurrying your shot trying to pick up a mile per hour or two of ball speed.

Forced shots also can cause you to turn your ball early and make a poor shot.

We always read or hear about maintaining good tempo with your swing and steps.

There can be no easier way to get you back in the groove than double checking the obvious things with your swing direction being one factor and the pace and direction of your steps another.

If you are a top tier player in your league, city, or state, keeping track of the two simple keys to staying sharp can benefit you greatly if your game gets a little out of sorts, your swing alignment and your steps.

If you have any concerns, do not hesitate to consult with your coach or favorite bowling instructor.

A good coach can quickly monitor your walking path and your swing to help you put your game back online!
