Keep Your Bowling Swing Close To Your Body

By: bowlingball.com, 6/28/17

If you are searching for a simple swing tip, keep your bowling swing close to your body.

It is important to have your forward swing directed to your intended bowling ball delivery path.

The purpose of swinging your bowling ball close to your body is to maintain accuracy by creating a narrow gap between your hip and your swing.

On your forward swing, make sure your arm does not flare away from your upper body and from your hip as it passes through on its way to releasing your bowling ball.

There are a couple of checkpoints you can follow for keeping your bowling swing tucked in closely to your body:

*Your bowling arm must swing under your bowling shoulder and the inside portion of your elbow should almost brush against your hip as you swing and release the ball.

*The front portion of your arm (where blood is drawn at a medical laboratory) should be facing the pins as your arms swings by your body and enters the release zone near the bottom of your forward swing arc.

*Your bowling hand should remain behind the ball as long as possible.

*Avoid rotating your entire arm before releasing your ball but rather strive to rotating your bowling fingers only slightly when releasing your ball.

*The inside edge of your bowling ball should pass extremely close to your sliding ankle as you release the ball.

If you wish to develop accuracy and a repeatable swing plane, make sure you avoid “roundhousing” your forward swing around your hip and leg where your bowling hand gets too far away from your upper body.

Keeping your swing tucked in closely to your body helps you avoid turning your ball early and delivering an errant shot.

Another factor in creating a repeatable arm swing is to rely on a tension free swing motion and allow gravity to help swing your ball back and through to your target. A free swing motion leads to a consistent swing tempo. Avoid hurrying or forcing your swing but rather allow your swing to finish its full cycle movement unabated. Good swing tempo leads to releasing your ball accurately to your target. Keep your bowling swing close to your body.
