How Is Your Bowling Blood Pressure?

When you bowl in competition and feel the anxiety building from having to perform well, how is your bowling blood pressure?

Knowing how to handle bowling nerves is a real challenge to any skilled player such as yourself. What experts recommend is to pinpoint ways which work best for you to relax and stay as calm as possible as you face key frames during competition.

You have been told that your brain is the key in overcoming anxiety or fear of winning.

To get yourself into a positive, relaxed frame of mind so your body can follow, here are a few simple but time-tested principles in calming nerves.

*Move slowly and avoid rushing or sudden movements while getting in position to bowl. Slow down the gears in your mind and take time to prepare yourself before stepping onto the approach.

*Breathe in slowly and exhale slowly a couple of times to reduce muscle tension and to calm your mind before beginning to bowl.

*As you take your stance position on the approach, exhale to about half lung capacity and hold your breath while you walk, swing your bowling ball, and complete your approach and delivery motion.

*Avoid over-reacting to any result on any shot. Take both great shots and results in stride just as you must when you make a poor shot or get a poor result.

*Avoid thinking too far ahead in your match or your game but rather take each shot one at a time and prepare consistently for each shot you face.

*Finally, think about a good start to your approach and then a good finish and, in between, focus on your sight target on the lane.

Keep your mind clear of clutter and too many thoughts about every little motion you make when bowling. Allow yourself to sense a feeling of a flowing motion at the same pace each shot you make.

Keep it simple. Success comes from developing good physical game fundamentals during your practice sessions and then trusting them in competition by relaxing and allowing your neck, shoulder and arm muscles to be as void of tension as possible.

These simple tips will help you produce positive results in competition and keep an even keel on the lanes.

There are several other factors which can also help you relax and prepare to bowl. Use visualization technique to see the result before you actually deliver your shot. Begin with the end result in mind and work back to the simple preparation you make when getting ready to bowl. Also, move smoothly on and off the approaches to set an inner tempo which will help when you bowl.
