How do I know if I need a bowling lesson? The answer to this question is that any serious bowler can benefit from a lesson and from working with an experienced instructor once the need is recognizable.

If you are struggling with your game, then it is evident that you need a plan to get back in stride.

For various reasons, bowlers resist taking lessons. Most participants in all other sports get tips or technique training from instructors but bowlers seem to resist.

If you can find an experienced coach, someone you can relate with and communicate easily with, then there is every reason to believe that scheduling a periodic lesson to tune-up your game makes perfect sense.

If your game is in need of an overhaul, then a series of lessons can set you on the right path.

Once you are improving, then an occasional lesson to fine tune things is always helpful.

Tiger Woods, one of the greatest golfers of all time, would refer to his “A Game”, his “B Game”, and so forth.

Regardless of your skill level in bowling, you can attain your specific “A Game,” the best performance your skills allow, and strive to retain that game by working with a good coach who understands your strengths and weaknesses and can devise methods to help you retain an “A Game” as often as possible.

Part of a coach’s job is to identify areas of the game where you need improvement, advise you on specific physical game techniques to head your game in the right direction, and help you develop a practice plan so you can work on the right areas of your game when you take to the practice lanes.

A good coach can also help you with game strategies for competition. So much of performing well in pressure situations is to understand your abilities and limitations when bowling under the gun. Your coach can help you dial in techniques to focus on while bowling in competition.

The mental game is a concept relating to your frame of mind and the preparation you engage prior to competitive sessions.

A coach can help you find what works best for your mindset, your emotional tendencies, and advise you where you can place greatest emphasis when you face the pressures leagues or tournaments present.

There are so many reasons why taking a lesson, or series of lessons, can benefit you but one thing must happen first or you will waste time and money.

You must truly want to improve and not merely casually think you would like to improve your game.

Improvement requires an investment of time and work as well as any fee you may pay your instructor.

Make a commitment to get better and then find a suitable instructor to join with your pro shop professional in becoming your personal team of advisors.
