How Do I Improve My Bowling With My Bad Back?

If you ask how can I improve my bowling with my bad back, you know it is a tough thing to deal with and still make good shots.

Bowling with a bad back is a challenge and not a pleasant experience.

If you have back pains, stiffness, soreness or just tight muscle conditions where your flexibility is restricted, avoid risking further discomfort or possibly injury by not warming up enough before taking to the lanes.

Lower back soreness, in particular, is the most frequent pain bowlers encounter.

Try the following to help you get through competitive sessions and possibly bowl very well:

*Do smooth and slow stretching exercises to loosen all of your body muscles, not just lower back muscles.

*All stretching motions must be made slowly and holding the stretch position for at least a count of ten.

*Slow toe touches, or mid calf touches with your legs together can help stretch the muscles in your lower back and the back of your legs.

*On the lanes, preset your spine angle in your stance position to match your preferred finish position at the foul line. In doing so, you can maintain the same spine angle forward-tilt throughout your approach and release.

*Avoid wasted motion, particularly with your upper body.

*It is very important to walk and swing your bowling ball keeping your head as motionless as possible.

*Use the knee flex in your legs to get you slightly lower to the floor when releasing your ball.

*Avoid trying to thrust your bowling arm through the delivery zone and adding power to your release but rather allow your swing and release to be smooth and relaxed.

*Avoid runaway footsteps where you walk so quickly to the foul line that you have to brake suddenly with a forced slide and risk jamming your back, especially if you slide into a sticky spot on the approach.

*Bowl with a consistent ball delivery speed so you can make sensible alignment and adjustments decisions.

Bowling with a bad back is certainly no fun but if remove excessive and unneeded body motion, you can compete effectively.

The old adage to “beware of the injured warrior” can apply to you if you follow these tips when your back is flaring up.

Use focus and concentration to make accurate shots and to play the lanes sensibly. It is highly recommended to consult with your physician or physical trainer relating to specific exercises you can do for bowling warm-up purposes to avoid increased back injury. Just keep in mind that walking and swinging your ball with good tempo and remaining in good balance during your approach and delivery motion is essential to improving your bowling at any time, especially if you suffer from sore and tight lower back issues.
