How Do I Improve My Bowling Stance?

If you are a new bowler and ask how do I improve my bowling stance, then start with an athletic posture.

Here are a few tips for setting up with an athletic posture which will help you set a well balanced approach into motion:

*Place your bowling shoes together, or perhaps with only one board of space between each shoe. Place the toes of your shoes pointing toward the “pocket” down the lane.

*Tilt your upper body forward 10 to 15 degrees where the front portion of your shoulders are aligned directly above your knee caps.

*Flex your knees down slightly but not so far flexed that your leg muscles tighten.

Keep your knees slightly flexed throughout your approach so you do not walk “stiff-legged” and lose balance.

*Pre-set your bowling shoulder about one inch below the level of your non-bowling shoulder.

*If you have already developed a curve or hook ball delivery, position your bowling shoulder slightly behind your non-bowling shoulder.

If you deliver a straight ball, then make your shoulders parallel to the foul line and maintain that form throughout your approach.

*Position your bowling ball in front of your bowling shoulder. Ladies can position the ball slightly outside the bowling shoulder so the hip is not in the way on the backswing.

*Hold the ball anywhere from knee level to shoulder level elevation from the floor. Most players set up with the ball at or near waist level.

*Hold the ball close to your body so the ball feels light as opposed to holding it away from your body.

*Your chin should be slightly above shoulder level for good balance.

*Zoom in on your spot on the lanes with a sharp eye focus and keep your eye on that spot until your bowling ball passes the mark.

These simple stance tips will help you gain an athletic posture and help you maintain good balance during your approach.
