How Can I Regain The Feel With My Bowling Finger Pads?

If you ask how can I regain the feel with my bowling finger pads, you may have too much forward pitches in your finger holes.

Your pro shop professional can easily check the pitch angles drilled into your bowling ball.

If you have to curl the pads of your bowling fingers under and toward your palm excessively, you can lose feel of the ball against the pads of your fingertips.

Losing the feel can also lead to rotating your fingers around the side of the ball when you release the ball.

As a general but not absolute rule, the more forward (to palm) pitches drilled in your finger gripping holes, the longer your fingers remain in the ball, the easier it is to rotate the ball creating a fair amount of axis of rotation and tilt (side turn or spin).

If you wish to have your fingers exit the ball quickly and feel the ball on your finger pads, however, use less forward pitch angles in the holes or perhaps reverse pitches (away from palm).

Reverse pitches assist in staying behind the ball and reducing your degree of finger rotation.

Less finger rotation, less axis of rotation and tilt leading (forward roll or end-over-end roll).

Top tier players will change finger pitch angles to affect the amount of finger rotation they desire.

Left or right finger pitches can also be drilled to help increase or reduce side turn with your bowling fingers.

Feeling the inside of the bowling ball against your finger pads helps you make a precision delivery repeatedly.

When you lose feel of your ball during your swing, you will tend to squeeze the ball more than needed and that can lead to errant shots by either forcing your release or overturning your ball and losing the intended delivery path angle.

There is no question that a properly fitting bowling ball is key to good shotmaking.

It is important to have the grip of your ball checked by a pro shop pro occasionally to make sure the ball is sized and pitched to match your intended release motion.

If you are unsure about your finger pitch angles, do some experimentation. Plug and re-drill and old ball and try new pitches in your finger gripping holes. When to settle on the best pitches to match your preferred release technique, you will know how to drill future equipment.
