How Can I Raise My Average As A Senior Bowler?

If you ask how can I raise my average as a senior bowler, then you must first be willing to make little changes in your physical game and get some useful practice time scheduled?

If you currently average between 150 and 170 as a senior bowler, you can make progress with your game without making wholesale changes to your game.

Use the present strengths of your game to your advantage. If you wish to make some changes to your approach or delivery style, make slight changes.

Let’s face it, most senior bowlers resist the notion of paying for bowling lessons. If you are satisfied with your game as it is, then why take a lesson?

If, however, you do wish to improve, then avoid listening to the “experts” on your bowling team and go see a professional instructor to help you identify keys to your game where little changes can help you improve.

If you “tweak” your game, you will improve more quickly than with overhauling your game.

As examples, if you want to increase your ball speed slightly, speed up your steps just enough to where you do not lose balance.

If you want to change your release technique, make a slight adjustment such as staying behind the ball longer than you presently do and wait until your bowling hand reaches the bottom of your forward swing arc before rotating your fingers trying to hook the ball.

Most senior bowlers force their swings and releases trying so hard to get more speed or a stronger ball reaction that they get poor results. It is not necessary to do so in order to improve your game.

Believe this or not, the most common mistake senior bowlers make is the unwillingness to adjust to a new sighting target on the lane or resist making alignment positioning on the approach as the lane conditions change.

It is surprising how many senior bowlers want to play the “2nd arrow” all the time and never move much from that target and approach alignment even if the lane conditions call for playing the 3rd arrow or 4th arrow, as examples.

Resist the urge to make big changes but do not be afraid to make target and alignment adjustments if your ball reaction fails you in hitting the pocket consistently enough.

Simple changes and minor adjustments to your game can pay big dividends in your scoring but you first must know which changes to implement.

Invest in your entertainment and take a lesson or two if you wish to raise your bowling average. Higher bowling scores can be fun….try it!
