Good Bowling Posture Leads To Accuracy

By: bowlingball.com, 7/24/16

Any experienced and talented player knows that using good bowling posture leads to accuracy.

Although you may be a bowler who does not have picture-perfect form when bowling, it is essential to be in a good posture as you slide into the foul line and deliver your bowling ball.

Retaining a proper spine angle as you release your ball helps to not only control your moment of release but also helps regulate the angle of descent your bowling ball makes as it enters the lane surface just beyond the foul line.

During practice when your scores do not matter, work on your body positioning as you begin your slide step and release your ball.

As a general rule, you will want your shoulder blades to be aligned directly above your knee caps as you slide. This posture encourages balance during your slide and places you into a body position where you can release your ball on time shot after shot.

Using a slight amount of knee flex as you slide can also stabilize your body as you release your ball.

Since not every bowler has the physical ability to use a great deal of knee bend for one reason or another, it is important, however, to not slide into the foul line with no knee flex in your final two steps.

It is also important to avoid an overly-excessive lowered bowling shoulder as you slide and deliver your ball. If your body is tilted to much to the side by lowering your bowling shoulder, a loss of balance and inconsistencies in your ball delivery path angle will surely follow.

A key to accuracy includes release your ball relative to your sliding bowling shoe as close to the same moment each shot you make. Additionally, avoiding an early rotation with your bowling fingers before your hand reaches the release zone near the bottom of your forward swing allows you to apply the same release motion consistently and thereby control your ball skid distance.

You do not have to have perfect body posture and form when you bowl but it is very important to be in the right overall body position as you slide and release your ball if you expect to be able to repeat good shots during competition.

Strive to eliminate any unneeded or wasted body motion during your approach with only your legs moving and your arm swinging your ball as a good practice technique to you will retain a constant spine angle and good body posture when you bowl.

Other factors also leading to bowling accuracy are a consistent walking pace, good swing tempo, not forcing your swing, and retaining good balance during your approach by keeping your head as steady and void of unneeded movement until you have released your ball. Accuracy is developed by starting from an athletic posture during your stance, using a repetitive tempo while walking and swinging your bowling ball, and sliding with balance for the control you need to release your ball on time and at your intended delivery path angle. It's important to have A Well Balanced Bowling Approach in order to improve accuracy.
