Clean Release Your Bowling Ball In Competition

When facing challenging lane conditions in tournaments or in leagues and when your opponents are good players, it is quite common to force your bowling delivery. Instead, choose to clean release your bowling ball in competition.

There are several factors which cause you to deliver your ball inconsistently when you really need to make good shots in competition.

Identifying these factors can help you overcome negative effects related to your release technique.

Pressure causes stress, anxiety, and gets you (or anyone) away from their best physical motion when bowling.

Raising your head to peek at the pins at the foul line just as you are delivering your ball is one cause for making a poor shot.

Another is changing your bowling shoulder elevation from the floor differently from shot to shot as you begin to release your ball.

Altering your spine angle out of a good posture is yet another shot killer you must avoid if you wish to release your ball consistently when facing stiff competition.

There are more reasons why we tend to make poor shots. Another of these reasons is grabbing the ball by applying excessive gripping pressure just as you try to let the ball go off of your hand.

To avoid these common tendencies when facing pressure bowling situations starts with visualizing yourself sliding smoothly into the foul line, staying in place with your upper body and legs so you do not change your posture while releasing your ball.

Next, keep your head as motionless as possible with your eyes fixed on your sighting target until your ball exits your hand.

Maintain even gripping pressure on your bowling ball as you swing the ball back and through to your moment of release continuing to a full and complete follow-through position.

Key your bowling thumb to exit the ball slightly before your hand reaches the bottom of your forward swing arc to help you regulate the moment your thumb exits the ball from shot to shot.

Avoid pushing up with your legs as you begin your slide step so you retain a consistent elevation from the floor each shot.

Since the objective is to launch your ball a consistent distance over the foul line, at the same speed, and with the same releasing motion by your bowling hand, it is important to train yourself to be stable with your legs and upper body as you slide and deliver your ball.

Regardless of your skill level or experiences as a top tier player, demand good basic fundamentals with your game so you can trust yourself to make good shots during fierce competition.
