Bowling Tempo Tip

When preparing for a big tournament, you might want to use a popular bowling tempo tip of counting cadence.

For a series of shots, count cadence with your steps and make sure your steps follow the cadence or tempo of your counting.

In other words, establish a pace of walking matching your swing tempo and practice repeating this pace time after time.

One subtle key is to use this same tempo for any and all shots whether they be for strikes, spares, splits, or washouts.

Counting cadence can quickly organize the movement of your feet with your swing.

Hurried steps not matching your swing tempo can lead to inconsistent shots and to a poor ball reaction.

Tension or anxiety attributes to changes in bowling tempo unless you work to develop a steady pace of bowling and begin by establishing a sound pre-shot routine.

Once you establish good tempo, you will find you also free your swing of muscle tension in your arm, shoulders, and neck. Good tempo helps you relax and relaxing helps you bowl well even though you have a “fire in your belly” to win.

Tempo promotes consistent body balance. Balance is another factor in bowling your best in competition.

Coupled with good timing, setting a repeatable bowling tempo allows you to focus on your aim point on the lane and to swing and deliver your bowling ball along your intended path toward your aim point.

Next time you get a chance to practice, pay special attention to setting a smooth and gliding tempo matching your own personal swing motion. Count cadence and synchronize your steps and swing pace to restore your best bowling motion.

Another advantage of bowling with good tempo is controlling your bowling ball speed. Ball speed control regulates ball skid distance and a consistent ball skid distance leads to a reliable overall ball reaction. Adjustments are made easier when you are making consistent shots as opposed to bowling with a “choppy” tempo varying your ball speed. Good tempo and ball speed control enables you to read the lanes effectively and make good adjustments as needed.
