Bowling Spine Angle

A well balanced bowling approach starts with a good set up and then continues by retaining your spine angle while walking and swinging your bowling ball.
The term “athletic posture” in bowling means to establish an upper body position where you have the best balance possible.
This posture includes creating a forward spine angle tilt of about 10 - 15 degrees. Next, you flex your knees downward slightly so your large leg muscles support your entire upper body.
The combination of this forward tilt spine angle and flexed knees create an athletic posture and a stable platform from which your movements to the foul line are solidly balanced and so you remain in position to accurately release your bowling ball.
With a spine angle slightly tilted forward, the front portions of your shoulders will be directly aligned over your flexed knee caps.
Next, make sure the bottom of your chin is at shoulder level so your head could balance a book or a glass of water without tipping over the glass or the book while you walk and swing your bowling ball.
Posture is everything when it comes to developing an ability to make consistent and accurate bowling shots.
It make simple sense to establish your athletic posture in your set up on the approach and retain this posture throughout your bowling movements.
As a checkpoint, hold your form at the foul line after you have released your bowling ball.
If you can remain in this “post position” for at least two seconds after releasing your bowling ball, you will be in a well balanced position for consistently good shotmaking.
It only makes good sense to reduce wasted body motion and use the fewest number of moving body parts if you wish to maintain consistent balance and enjoy good results. Coupled with using an athletic set-up and retaining this posture while you swing a heavy bowling ball and while maintaining a steady head leads to a solid finish position when sliding and releasing your bowling ball. Good shots stem from using this stable body position with your legs supporting your upper body weight allowing for maximum precision in repeating quality deliveries.
