Bowling release and posture are essential components in achieving a consistent ball reaction and hitting the pocket consistently.

Control the moment of releasing your bowling ball and your job of controlling your bowling ball skid distance, the first step to gaining a reliable ball reaction, is made a consistent process.

You will have difficulties regulating the precise moment you release your bowling ball relative to your sliding bowling shoe unless you first develop an athletic upper body posture.

An athletic posture assists you when you walk and swing your bowling ball. Good posture leads to good balance which is very important as you and enter your final slide step in a solid position to deliver your ball accurately.

For any accomplished player, it is extremely important to regulate the precise moment your bowling thumb exits the bowling ball relative to your sliding step. This is a key to gaining a consistent ball reaction where many players do not pay enough attention in mastering.

Since we have now established you must develop good bowling posture and then program your release to recur consistently, let’s examine a few simple ways of accomplishing both keys to your game:

*Set up using an athletic posture.

*Make sure your body weight is positioned evenly over your feet.

*Use a 10 or 15 degree forward spine angle tilt in your stance and strive to retain that posture as you walk, swing your ball, and enter your sliding step to release the ball.

*Swing and release your bowling ball with little or no head movement and at a consistent launch speed.

*Exit your bowling thumb (followed by your bowling fingers) from the ball very near the heel of your sliding bowling shoe.

*You may have to think releasing the ball before your hand reaches the heel of your sliding shoe in order to actually release your hand at that point because your hand is moving swiftly as you walk and swing your bowling ball. This practice technique will help avoid being late with your release.

*Avoid decelerating your follow through motion.

*Eliminate any bowling finger rotation until your ball reaches the bottom of your forward swing arc.

*Monitor your ball loft distance beyond the foul line for a consistent skid distance which, in turn, leads to a consistent ball reaction.

*Reduce tension in your bowling arm, neck and shoulder muscles as much as possible.

*Avoid forcing your downswing and release.

With practice, you will establish a well balanced posture as you walk and swing your ball.

With good posture, your task of releasing your bowling ball at a precise moment relative to your sliding shoe becomes a familiar and comfortable process.

When you tie together good posture and a consistent moment of release, you will begin to gain confidence in seeing a reliable ball skid distance. With the skid distance becoming consistent, your ball reaction will follow. As the lanes change over the course of your competitive sessions, you can make sensible and effective adjustments to continue hitting the pocket as often as possible.
