Bowling Ball Swing Path Alignment

Bowling ball swing path alignment is the process of keeping the forward swing and your ball delivery following an intended path from the moment of release and continuing down the lane toward a given sighting target on the lane.

Each shot in bowling, spares and strikes alike, will have a predetermined ball delivery path.

The alignment to match with an intended delivery path is based on the location of the bowling hand at release and the angle the ball exits the hand on its way to the target.

Of course, the swing path is based on your alignment and, in particular, where your sliding step arrives at the foul line relative to the ball exiting your hand.

When you, or any bowler, make moves on the lanes changing angles of attack, it is important to keep your forward swing and bowling hand moving along your adjusted path.

Your swing path, as you know, is a composite path combining your backswing direction and your forward swing direction in relation to the sighting target on the lane.

Some key checkpoints are as follows:

*Walk your intended lines.

*Avoid rotating your bowling hand earlier than intended.

*Avoid forcing your forward swing and release in an effort to add power or pure speed to your shot.

*Maintain consistent feet and swing tempo.

*Use a pre-shot routine by swinging your hand without the bowling ball along your intended delivery path rehearsing your swing and release technique before stepping onto the approach and preparing to bowl.

*Visualize your bowling ball traveling from your hand down the lane over your target and hooking properly from the breakpoint to the pocket.

There can be no easier way to get you back in the groove than double checking the obvious things with your swing direction being one factor and the pace and direction of your steps another.

If you are an advanced player competing in tournaments and/or leagues, focus on your swing path alignment, tempo, and your footwork direction.

If you have any concerns, consult with your instructor.

A good coach can quickly monitor these key factors in maintaining a good bowling ball swing path alignment.
