Beginner Bowler Set Up And Posture

If you are new to the game having never bowled in organized competition but perhaps only socially with family and friends, follow these simple tips for beginner bowler set up and posture to establish good body balance when you bowl.

Setting up on the approach before you begin walking to the foul line to deliver your bowling ball is best accomplished using an athletic posture.

The key to becoming an accurate bowler able to consistently deliver your ball to the pocket and to convert routine spares is to retain good balance when bowling.

Good balance comes from your set up position on the approach.

Here are some tips for getting a good set-up posture before walking to the line and tips for keeping good balance during your approach:

*Set your spine angle perhaps 10 - 15 degrees leaning forward and flex your knees slightly. Retain this level of spine angle tilt from the beginning of your approach throughout your approach and ball delivery.

*Align the front portion of your bowling shoulder with your sighting mark on the lane.

*Point the toes of your bowling shoe toward the pocket and you stand with your weight distributed with slightly more weight on the foot you do not use to take your first step.

*Hold your ball in front of your bowling shoulder at a height from the floor comfortable to you as as close to your body as feels comfortable. Holding the ball close to your body when aiming on the approach helps to not tense up your bowling arm.

*Your head should be level and the bottom of your chin no lower than the top of your shoulders.

*Avoid upper body movement while walking to the foul line other than swinging your bowling arm to deliver your bowling ball.

It is recommended you consult with an established coach/instructor at least one time when learning to bowl.

Your coach can help you develop good physical game fundamentals and help you progress in the game.
