You have to learn to be concerned only with what you can control and let go of the rest. The fact is that you can control only your own performance and your reaction to your surroundings.
How often have you let another player distract you only to admit that he stole your focus? Actually, what he did is not the problem. Your reaction to it is. You cannot control what another player does or doesn’t do, but you can control your reaction to it. The other player does or doesn’t do, but you can control your reaction to it. The other player did not steal your focus. Rather, you let what he did interfere with your ability to focus on what you control.
How many times have you let a bad break take hold and steal your focus? The bad break wasn’t the problem; your reaction to it was. The only thing you can do is make the best shot you can and adjust your strategy. That’s all you have control over. You can shoot a great 279 game and get beat if your opponent shoots 280.
