The Bowling Balance Leg

The step before your slide step is very important to help you develop momentum when sliding into the foul line. To build momentum, you must push off of your trailing step and transfer the full weight of your body onto your sliding leg.
This step before your slide then becomes a “rudder” of sorts as the weight of of your trailing leg, known as a balance leg, can stabilize your body while you are sliding and delivering your bowling ball.
It is vital to remain motionless with your upper body while delivering your bowling ball. Unneeded head or shoulder movement can only serve to encourage a loss of balance.
The step before your slide step becomes your balance leg as you transfer your weight onto your sliding leg and begin the sliding process.
Once you have transferred your weight onto your sliding leg, your balance leg must move out of the way smoothly so your forward swing has a clear path to deliver your bowling ball.
Your balance leg should sweep smoothly to the opposite side of your body from your bowling arm.

The bowling shoe on your balance leg should remain in contact with the approach floor with the toe of the shoe pointing toward the pins.
By keeping the shoe in contact with the approach floor and the toe of your bowling shoe pointed to the pins, your hips will remain fairly square to the pins allowing for your swing to retain its intended forward swing path.
If your balance leg lifts off of the floor suddenly while sweeping away to the side of your body, you risk losing balance at the time you deliver your ball.
Accuracy requires good posture as you slide into the foul line. Using your balance leg to stabilize your body as you slide and release your ball leads to good shot making.
