If you are averaging about 140, likely improving your balance during your approach and delivery will increase your chances at making a good shot.

A well balanced approach starts with good posture.
Regardless of your skill level, good shot-making is begins by being in a good, athletic posture during your approach.
Here are a few tips for good balance:

1. Flex your knees and tilt your upper body forward about 10 - 15 degrees from an upright stance position.
2. Maintain this spine angle and knee flex throughout your approach and delivery.
3. Avoid wasted body motion as you walk to the foul line and avoid rushing your approach.
4. Keep your head as motionless as possible while walking to the line and while releasing your bowling ball. A steady and level head will produce good balance.
5. Smoothly sweep your bowling balance leg toward the non-bowling side of your body as you begin your slide with the bowling shoe of your balance leg remaining in contact with the floor, and with the toe of the shoe facing the pins to stabilize your upper body.
6. Maintain sufficient knee flex in your sliding leg to support the full weight of your body as you slide evenly across the bottom of your sliding bowling shoe into the foul line.
7. Your sliding bowling shoe should remain aligned with the boards on the lane and slide under the center of your body to provide good stability when releasing the ball.
8. Hold your form at the foul line after you have released your bowling ball until the ball reaches your sighting target.

Good balance starts with a good set-up during your stance on the approach. Maintaining proper body posture throughout your approach, free of any wasted motion, is vital to good shot making.
These simple tips for good posture and balance will help you produce good results on your journey to raising your average.
